Inspire and empower individuals
The 30Days30WaysAUS vision is to inspire and empower individuals from all walks of life to get build household and community preparedness, boosting resilience in a world of growing risks.
30 Days 30 Ways is a practical, evidence-based campaign designed to help people across Australia get ready for emergencies — no matter who they are, where they live, or what their experiences have been.
Emergencies can affect anyone. Yet many people feel unprepared, unsure where to start, or simply believe disasters “won’t happen to them.” This campaign changes that by sharing simple actions, lived-experience insights, and achievable steps that anyone can take — from newly arrived Australians to long-time locals.
Throughout September, we share daily tips, stories, and easy preparedness activities across social media and with our program partners. Each day highlights a different theme, helping people build confidence and capability one small, practical action at a time.
You’ll see guidance on topics like Talking to kids about Emergencies, Bushfire Ready, Emergency for the Deaf community, and much more — all shaped by real experiences from communities and the experts who support them before, during, and after disasters.
The goal is simple:
Help every person in Australia get ready, feel informed, and know what to do in an emergency.
Preparedness is for everyone.
And everyone can take the next step to get ready today..
But why September? Why 30 days?
Well, September is the perfect time to raise awareness. As the days grow longer, our minds naturally shift towards warmer weather and brighter days. Plus, school holidays are just around the corner, making it an ideal moment to focus on many different types of preparedness.
Building resilience is a step-by-step process that needs to become ingrained in our daily lives. That's why we ran campaign LIVE for the 30 days throughout September. But don't worry, even after September ends, this website will continue to serve as your go-to hub for all things preparedness and to connect you with important and relevant resources.
Let's take a quick trip into the history of 30Days30Ways
The “preparedness games” concept originated with the Clark Regional Emergency Services in Vancouver, Washington. It took off in the USA in 2010 as "30Days30Ways" during "National Preparedness Month”.
The Northamptonshire Emergency Planning Team in the UK then adapted the idea for social media, and in 2015, it skyrocketed with the hashtag #30days30waysUK. The overwhelming response led to the creation of dedicated Twitter and Facebook handles, @30days30waysUK, in 2017.
In 2025 #30days30waysAUS and @30days30waysAUS came back for its third year. Check out the videos on the What’s On page, and on Facebook and Instagram.
